Greece in Top 10 of European tourism destinations

Greece’s strong brand name as a popular international tourism destination is confirmed in a recent study commissioned by the Institute of SETE-INSETE, which showed that the country is in the Top 10 of European destinations.

The best standing for the country came in the Italian market, where it’s the second favorite destination; third in the UK, German and French markets, and fifth in the Austrian market.

The study focused on eight of the biggest national markets from which Greece attracts holiday-makers, namely, Germany, UK, France, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands and the United States, while at the same time excluding data from citizens who did not travel abroad, even before the pandemic.

Conversely, data was mined from respondents who traveled abroad by air for holidays, and at least once between 2017 and 2020.

One result shows that the biggest percentage of respondents who took a foreign holiday in the pre-pandemic era is interested in another such trip.

For Greece specifically, the product of “sea and sun” is the biggest draw for the country, followed by a “city break”.

SETE-INSETE is a non-profit organization founded in early 2013 upon an initiative of the Greek Tourism Confederation (SETE). The study was conducted by the firm Censuswide.
